There’s a safe middle ground here. A homeowner can check whether a post is loose by rocking it at grade, inspect rail end caps for missing or cracked seals, and confirm bracket engagement by pressing upward on the rail while watching the joint. What we don’t recommend: digging out a set post without locating underground utilities, attempting to reset a post in a footing that failed once already, or cutting vinyl rail with anything other than a fine-tooth miter blade, the material melts and re-welds behind the blade.
