• Doors sag or won’t stay closed. The Heritage Series uses a pressed-steel hinge cup that fatigues after 8-12 years of heavy door weight, especially on pantry units over 60 inches tall. The cup wall thins and the screw holes wallow out, which is why the door drops 1/8 inch and the magnetic catch no longer meets the plate.
• Drawer fronts tilt or bind. Tamko’s Builder’s Grade drawer boxes ride on epoxy-coated side-mount slides rated for 75 pounds; when the coating chips, the steel underneath rusts in Oakland’s marine-influenced humidity. The drawer then racks corner-to-corner and jams in the opening.
